Social Action
The Adat Social Action committee is involved in Tikkun Olam activities and events around the Los Angeles area. We join together to assist our community and needy people around the world. Adat Shalom is a supporting organization of Jewish World Watch. This past year we invited speakers from JWW to teach our Religious School Classes about the crisis in Darfur. We raised money to buy solar ovens and members of all ages participated in the JWW walk to end genocide in the San Fernando Valley. On Purim we made and delivered peanut butter and jelly sandwiches “mishloach manot” to the needy. We volunteered at the Santa Monica and Van Nuys food banks, and for Operation Gratitude, we packed goodie bags for the US soldiers overseas.
Every month we join other local synagogues in One on One Outreach where we pack and deliver groceries to less fortunate families in the Hoover /Figueroa corridor. This event occurs on the last Sunday of the Month in the late afternoon. It is a very rewarding and enjoyable activity for adults and children. It is also a great mitzvah project for upcoming B’nai Mitzvah students.
Please join us for any of these activities and feel free to suggest other ways in which we can support our community.
