Welcome Rabbi Lefkowitz

Dear Adat Shalom Community,

We do not yet know each other well, but our lives will soon become intimately connected. My name is Rabbi Kevin Lefkowitz and I am ecstatic to begin serving the Adat Shalom community this coming July.

Two thousand years ago, Rabbi Yohanan ben Zakkai escaped the siege of Jerusalem with two options: accept the destruction of the Temple and with it, the end of Judean life as he knew it; or move to Yavneh and establish an academy to preserve and adapt Jewish tradition to meet the needs of his generation. He chose Yavneh and thanks to him, we thrive 2000 years later as a beautiful Jewish community in Los Angeles, California.

He succeeded because he devoted himself to community and Jewish learning. Adat Shalom flourishes because it holds these same priorities. My mission is to strengthen the community by maintaining the wonderful services, teachings, and programs Adat Shalom already provides, and by getting to know each of you in person, whether at services, a formal event, or over coffee.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all those who have trusted me with this great responsibility and welcomed me into the community. It is an honor to follow in Rabbi Nolan Lebovitz’s footsteps in guiding Adat Shalom forward. Alongside my fiancé, soon-to-be Rabbi Melissa Carp Lefkowitz, I look forward to building relationships, teaching and learning Torah, and deepening the love of yiddishkeit long established here at Adat Shalom.
