High Holiday Important Information

Dear Adat Shalom Community,

High Holidays 5787 are upon us! This year’s theme, Come Home to Adat Shalom, captures the heart and spirit of our community.

Erev Rosh Hashanah begins Friday night, September 11, at 6:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m.

Erev Yom Kippur begins September 20, at 6:00pm.

The Basics

Bring your personalized High Holiday tickets with you to every service. Your name is printed on the front of your ticket, and the security team will be verifying names. Please do not switch or share your ticket with anyone else.

Bring your Mahzor Lev Shalem with you. We have a limited number of copies available to borrow. If you would like to purchase a copy, please contact the office by September 10.

Bring your High Holiday Pledge Card with you on Rosh Hashanah, Saturday, September 12. Your pledge card is in the same envelope as your High Holiday tickets and also has your name printed on the front. Please contact the office if you did not receive your pledge card.

Everyone attending services must show their personalized High Holiday ticket to security before entering the campus.

High Holiday Entrance & Security

SINGLE ENTRANCE

  • Entrance to the campus will be through the Chapel Doors in the National Blvd. parking lot. This will be the only entrance to the campus throughout High Holiday services.
  • The Main Door entrance on Westwood Blvd. and the gate on National Blvd. will not be used as entrances.
  • Exit from the campus will be through the Chapel Doors and the National Gate.
  • Please do not exit through the Courtyard gates to Westwood Blvd.

SECURITY

  • Bag checks: Security is instructed to inspect all bags, including tallit bags, purses, and other personal belongings.
  • Security will also verify the name on each person’s High Holiday ticket before allowing entry to the campus.
  • Please allow extra time for parking and security screening, especially if you have an honor during the service.

REMINDER: Please bring your personalized ticket to every service.

Will Call Tickets & Schedule

  • If you have not received your tickets in the mail or have pre-purchased tickets, they will be available at the Will Call table just inside the Chapel entrance.
  • If you are picking up a ticket, security will verify that your name appears on the Will Call list.
  • Jessica Wysocki and Adrienne Naor will be staffing the Will Call table.
  • Ushers will also be available to assist.
  • Pre-purchased Mahzorim will be available for pickup at the Will Call table.

Will Call Schedule

  • 9/11 – Erev Rosh Hashanah: 6:00–7:30 p.m.
  • 9/12 – Rosh Hashanah Day 1: 8:30–11:00 a.m.
  • 9/20 – Kol Nidre: 6:00–7:30 p.m.
  • 9/21 – Yom Kippur: 8:30–11:00 a.m.
  • 9/21 – Yom Kippur: 5:00–6:30 p.m.

High Holiday Seating – Open Seating

We will have open seating for all services, including Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

We are blessed with a large sanctuary and spacious social hall, and we anticipate having room for everyone who would like to join us at Adat Shalom for the High Holidays.

Permanent Seat Holders: We are fortunate that Adat Shalom members have generously supported the purchase of Permanent Seats. Current members who purchased Permanent Seats may have those seats honored on Rosh Hashanah Day 1 and Yom Kippur, as in past years. If you would like your Permanent Seats reserved, please let the office know.

High Holiday Honors – Reserved Section

The front-row pews on the Cantor’s side will be reserved for those assigned a High Holiday honor, including a reading, Torah Aliyah, ark opening, or other honor.

If you have an honor, please plan to move to the reserved seating area within 3–5 pages of your honor.

Please also check in with an Orchestrator, Lourine Hall or Jaime Knoll, when you arrive for services.

High Holiday Live Stream

All High Holiday services will be available via live stream. Each service has a unique link, and these links are the only way to access the services online.

These links are for members only. We ask that you please do not share the links with friends or family.

If you know someone who would like to view our live stream, please have them contact the office to arrange for and purchase a link. The cost is $36 per service.

Links for Yom Kippur will be sent prior to Erev Yom Kippur.

If you experience any issues with the live stream, please call the main office at 310-475-4985. Leave a message explaining the problem and include your cell phone number. We will be monitoring the live stream and troubleshooting technical issues.

High Holiday Parking

  • National Blvd. parking lot: This lot is for pick-up and drop-off only, with parking reserved for vehicles displaying a Blue or Red Disability Placard. This allows easy access for those who are unable to walk long distances. When dropping someone off, please pull all the way in toward the exit driveway.
  • Street parking: There is ample street parking in the surrounding area, including on Westwood Blvd., Malcolm Ave., and National Blvd.
  • Parking Structure: Additional parking is available in the parking structure across the street at 10801 National Blvd., adjacent to the Chevron gas station. The gate will be open for entry to the outdoor lot.
  • Please do not park in the Trader Joe’s parking lot.

Please note: Meters, Tow Away Zones, and other safety violations will continue to be enforced.

The last thing we want to share with the community is our new bathrooms are open and ready for the High Holidays. Kudos to the Social Hall Committee, the construction crew and all who contributed to this project, for making this a reality!
