Adat Shalom was founded in the mid-1940s, one of the first L.A. Westside synagogues. Mort and Lorraine Schrag joined Adat Shalom in 1977. In the mid-1990s the shul was experiencing severe financial challenges. As the shul’s fortunes continued to worsen, leadership turned to Mort for guidance. He became president in 1996, serving two years, followed by four years in an emeritus position. It is believed by many that without Mort’s involvement Adat Shalom may not have survived.

In recognition of Mort’s invaluable contributions during his almost half century of membership, Adat Shalom welcomes you to join the synagogue on August 11 at 2:00 p.m. to honor Mort. The agenda includes an interview with Mort followed by a Q&A session for those in attendance. Moreover, you will have a chance to order Mort’s recently published memoir, "Lemonade Stand" in which he liberally shares Adat Shalom-related stories. If you won't be able to attend the event, you can purchase a book using the form below. Samples of the book will be available at the event to peruse. Once the books later arrive at Adat Shalom, Mort will sign them with a personal note and you will be able to pick them up at the synagogue.
